In this second painting of George Stinney Jr.’s story, joy is barely holding on.

George and his sisters are playing outside. Just kids, just home. A simple moment. But look closer. The ground beneath them isn’t fully there, as if their safety was never promised. Their faces are smeared, not out of forgetfulness, but to mark how their identities were blurred, dismissed, and overlooked in the rush to condemn.

His sister held the truth. She was his alibi. But when she tried to speak, she couldn’t even enter the police station. Reports vary. Some say it was the KKK, others say it was an angry mob. Either way, she faced a crowd dangerous enough to keep her away.

This piece doesn’t scream. It lingers. It remembers a time when children couldn’t be children for long, and the truth wasn’t allowed in the room.
